Monse, was a trading post (Lumsden’s) in pioneer times, becoming in 1916, a flourishing supply center for South Half homesteaders, a lone trading post stood here in the 1880s. A prospector, named Lumsden, operated it itermitlently between trips to and from Spokane, the nearest places from which supplies could be bought. He made the road trip of 300 miles with 4 horse team and wagon in 15 days or longer, depending upon weather and conditions of the roads.
