This small settlement lasted only for a short period, because it was near the Moses Columbia Reservation, newly established for Chelan, Methow, Sinkiuse, Entiat, and Wenatchee Indian people. The army felt as though they should be close by to protect the white settlers from possible attack by the Indians, and Indians from intrusion, and attack by the whites. The reservation lasted only a few years, and then was returned to public control with the agreement of Chief Moses.
There is no evidence of the Camp Chelan site today, which was near the east side of town on private land, just off State Route 150.
